How did we miss this.. Selection is OK, no great mysteries..
The Great Midwest International Beer Festival will feature more than 100 varieties beers Contributed By: Howard Mitchell | Capital Communications Alliance The Festival is a partner with the Greater Cincinnati Independent Restaurants (GCIR), a coalition of 42 locally-based restaurants who are not part of a national chain and who promote local and sustainable consumption. The Beer Festival is the kick-off of Restaurant Week, coming September 13-19 at all area GCIR locations. In a region where “beer” and Cincinnati are nearly synonymous, craft brewers and large brewers alike will present a variety of beers ranging from England’s Boddington’s to such local brews as Mt. Carmel, Rivertown and Samuel Adams to such craft beers as Chicago’s Goose Island and New Hampshire’s Smuttynose to Hoegaarden, the famed Belgian wheat beer whose history dates back to 1445. (For a list, scroll down.) “We’re delighted that such local restaurants as Bella Luna, Washington Platform, Jag’s, The View, and the Oriental Wok will prepare food and offer customers sample small plates,” said Shannon Purkiss, GCIR marketing coordinator. In addition, purveyors of fine foods will offer samples of their unusual foods and offer recipes, and chefs from the GCIR will demonstrate and prepare recipes that show cooking with beer and offer food samples. Among other things, the participating chefs will conduct a “Beer & Burgers” feature, in which the chefs will take a beer and create their vision of the “perfect bite” to create their perfect bite for that beer These chefs include (more to be added): ? Matt Winteroud from the Summit Restaurant at MCI; ? Sean McCoy from the Brown Dog Café in Blue Ash; ? Michelle Brown from Jags Steak & Seafood in West Chester; ? Owner Mac Ryan from Mac’s Pizza Pub near the University of Cincinnati; ? Owner/Operator Jon Diebold of Washington Platform; ? Guy Burgess, chef at the Oriental Wok in Fort Mitchell, who’s a national beer judge and an instructor at the Midwest Culinary Institute; ? Harry & Gay Stephens, owners of Bella Luna on Eastern Avenue and The View on Victory Parkway. The “Beer Fest” will have two sessions on August 7: 12 noon to 4::00 p.m. and an evening session beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 11:00 p.m. GCIR will donate a Portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and volunteers from the Society will man the beer taps. Admission is $40 per person, which will include unlimited tastes of beer and food samples; “designated drivers” may come for $10 and receive unlimited soft drinks and food. Tickets at the door are $45. For more information on the Great International Beer Festival, and to see updates on beers and new participating restaurants, go to www.intlbeerfest.com. I hate to sound like a beer snob, but that is a pretty average offering of beer. Nothing we haven't had before. The food pairing does make the whole thing sound pretty interesting.
