Every year I buy a pool membership, but this year it has been poorly managed and not kept up weel. There's constant leaf debris in the pool, the sides and bottom of the pool doesn't look like it's been scrubed since it opened. I've had to ask for toilet paper and soap for the restroom. Though today was the topper of the cake. No manager on duty, only one in training, and a day care of at least 40 kids shows up, unannounced and they were also short life-guards. Due to the heat and the daycare today was one of the busiest I've seen, and they are short life guards. Yet they managed to have 2-3 life guards on break at the same time through out the whole day. The manger in training, who was the person in charge had plenty of time to socialize in the pool, and play with a baby. It just killed me that no thought to tell a life guard, "hey were short staff I need you to cover a chair for me" They only had 1 guard in the shallow section, but at least 60 plus people in that area at all time. Here's the kicker the manager in training, kicked a group of swimmers off a picnic table, because it's unofficially reserved for the life-guards who are to help watch the pool. Most of the afternoon, the picnic table was empty. Then they didn't add an additional life-guard until after the day care left.

I can appreciate letting a day care come, because it money. But Here my beef with letting day cares in. Most kids don't know how to swim. They don't follow the rules. Today my 11 year old said." I wish they day care kids would leave, they won't leave us allow, and it's like they have no manners." Most of the time the workers sit back, up out of the way and don't supervise them correctly.

Here's the only thing I saw that they did do right, they tested the kids swimming ability before allowing them to go off the diving board. Out of about 15-20 kids tested, only 1 could swim well enough.

I want to know who the best person to contact to write a formal complaint to?

I've only been there once this summer. I do know, however, that lifeguards are only allowed up in the chairs for so much time, before they are due a break. I don't know anything about a "Manager in Training" being in charge. You can contact Megan Kenny, Pool Manager to voice your complaints/frustrations.

Typically the "rotation" will have you up in 4 chairs (15 minutes a chair) for an hour, down for half an hour, back up in the chairs for 45 minutes, and then down for 15 minutes. After the last 15 minute break the rotation starts over. The table in question is the umbrella table where guards on break are asked to watch the zero depth section of the shallow end while on break.

They could have been short on guards that day for any number of reasons. About this time a year you get a lot of guards who go on family vacations so you lose some people that way. Also, if a guard or two fails to show up for their noon shift (called pulling a zach green) you'll have to lose a shallow end chair, close a diving board, or send the snack bar girl to the top of the slide. Couple that with at least a few other guards in summer school, volunteering at day camps, other jobs, etc and one can see how one or two missing bodies can really throw a wrench in the system.

It may sound like you get a lot of breaks, but being up in the heat all day really takes a toll on your body. Also, constantly scanning the water fatigues your eyes greatly as well.

As for the day-cares, everyone hates them. When I was a guard we would purposely take off days when the day-cares were coming to the pool because we hated the hassle. Most of the local kids, even the knuckle-heads, typically know how to behave well enough at the pool.

Back in the 70's at a pool in Fairfield, when life quards were on breaks from the chairs, they were skimming the pool, cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans, working at the gate,or selling food.

I was there on Sunday and the pool was cleaner than I had seen it since opening day. I would say though that the chairs need to be scrubbed down with bleach. They're pretty filthy. The way I read your post though is that you are more disturbed that there was a daycare present. The kids do fill up the pool. I have had problems with them as well. I know your pain. However, if a kid is acting like an idiot or doing something they shouldn't be doin then I tell them. 100% of the time they have listened to me and not because i yelled at them, but because I talked to them about what they were doing and why it was inappropriate or wrong. redhawk has it right. Lifeguards are mandated to be "off" a certain period of time in their intervals of being on the chair. Is having to ask for toilet paper a big deal? Maybe the roll just went empty? You were having a hectic day for some reason. All in all, the Greenhills pool is very nice, affordable, and filled with great people. I hope you never have a day like you had that day.

My husband was also there on Friday and him and the kids ended up leaving early because there were a few daycare centers there and the kids were a bit rowdy(sp?).

I took the kids on Sunday and everything was clean as can be..but I have never been anytime this year where I thought it wasnt clean.

I cant even think of 1 time this summer where I thought the pool was dirty or lacked life guards.

This is our first year having a pass to the pool..I am very pleased with everyone who works there and all in all have never had a bad experience. We will definitely renew our pass for next year!

Large groups of kids from daycare centers causes problems at all water parks and pools, not just the GH pool. Been to a couple of spots where daycare centers take their kids. Yeah, it's annoying but to blame the GH pool staff like there is something they can do about it is simply silly.

cool.gif I have always thought our community pool is at or near the top of the list when it comes to things in Greenhills that we can be proud of. Last year I thought there was a bit of a decline in terms of "housekeeping", but this year has been much better. The daycare issue is a double-edged sword. The pool needs the revenue, but it gets very rowdy. The pool ceases to be a community pool when that happens as it usually loses 50% of those who decide to leave when they arrive.
