I received this email today from the President of Greenhills SAY Soccer. I'm very pissed.

Board Members,

The goals were disassembled/scrapped despite the fact that they were chained down, and major components are missing (only four pieces remain of each of the two goals). Jason filed a report with the GHPD, we've asked that the GH Journal and the Hilltop Press run stories on the theft for us, and WCPO Channel 9 will run a story on the theft at 5:30pm tonight (thanks to Mr. McGee from WCPO). WCPO will hopefully have a live news van in the village tonight as well to gauge community reaction and to hopefully call attention to the theft and a repeat offense in the future.

I also let STAR know about the situation since they also have goals in the Village. Jason and I will keep you posted on if they catch the two perpetrators.

Thanks

kf

The league and the village split the cost of those goals and the two sets at Beechwoods. If memory serves the goals stolen were about $1800 ea. So some ass stole $3600 worth of recreational equipment for scrap probalby got $300-400 dollars. I know time are hard - but stealling from our kids?

This just sucks.

Is there a possibility that it could be the Tuesday evening 'garbage pickers'??? Those guys are getting very aggressive in my opinion. I saw two that looked like they were going to get into a fistfight (with each other) over on Hadley recently.... I'm just saying!!! Is there anything that can be done about it?? I just feel like our village is so vulnerable on Tuesday nights with these strangers driving around like crazy people to load up on garbage (scrap if you prefer).

Agreed Smith, over here in the "F" block Tuesday evening around 6ish, a red pick up truck turned around in our cul-de-sac and sped away doing at least 30. If you know our street, it's small and he punched it. Plenty of younger kids around. WHY ? DUNNO ....

We called the police on the garbage pickers one week. I don't care if they take the visible stuff, but they started opening and fishing through bags of stuff - to me, that crossed a line. Unfortunately (for them), they opened my old hockey bag filled with old, wet, moldy hockey equipment. I think that scared them off pretty fast. smile.gif

These guys are the ultimate recyclers. Maybe if Rumpke would recycle this stuff and not limit their recycling to the little things that fit into the little red bins.

Wow. Rumpke has service in Florida too? rolleyes.gif We know all about your long beef with Rumpke recycling before you moved out of state. Go start a thread about it. This one is about something awful that happened to our local soccer program. dry.gif

Yes - we need lights. I live by Beechwoods and I think, under the cover of darkness, ANYTHING could go on back there. dry.gif

As far as lights go, I don't think these guys hit under the cover of darkness. I am fairly sure that it was still light out when they took them.

Yep, this was a daylight job. The person was even approached by someone asking them what they were up to. They spun a good enough lie that the cops weren't called. GPD has a good description and a "person of interest". If they can make a case it will be a felony charge.

Not that they will recover the goals.

This thread turned into accusing the poor scrap collectors, trying to make some money in this awful economy, and keeping stuff out of the land fills, of stealing the soccer goals. I think that is unfair.

I just think the big trucks that are used to pick up residents' beer bottles and milk jugs and pop cans create a bigger carbon footprint than they save.

And the scrappers don't?! They drive around in noisy rattletrap POS trucks, pile junk so high in the back that it poses a major safety hazard to any car following - and leave clouds of thick blue and black smoke behind them since most lost (or scrapped) the mufflers long ago. Personally, I'd rather only have 1 truck do that in the morning when they come through for trash (and those Rumpke trucks put out far LESS smoke than most of the scrappers' vehicles) rather than the parade of trucks we now see on Tuesday nights.

The scrappers (both the human and raccoon variety) are the reason why I put out my trash as late as I can on Wednesdays now.
