Friday Feb 12, 2010 marks the 1st annual Have A Heart fundraiser/party to fight breast cancer, with Bob and Brian Benintendi as the Masters of Ceremonies! Proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati. Live music (3 bands!) and good friends, all benefiting a great cause. Party plans include door prizes, raffles and other fund raising activities. $10 suggested donation at the door.

Friday, Feb 12
8:00 PM - 12:30 AM
Molloy's on the Green
Greenhills, Ohio

I get all confused about women's heart disease month (Feb.) and fighting breast cancer. Didn't breast cancer have the month of October? I mean, I can only focus on one horror at a time!

This is a picture of me and my sister taken back in 2003 at my wedding. Amy had to schedule her chemo-therapy so that her "good days" between treatments would fall on this weekend. Almost 3 years later, on Feb 28th, she lost her battle with breast cancer.
Amy's birthday was on January 28th, her wedding anniversary was Feb 4th, her major surgery was feb 14th, 2000 (coinciding w/ my parent's 50th wedding anniversary)
February sucks. The weather sucks, business always is down, and there are some pretty bad recent memories also.
Amy's husband, Willie, sings with us in Gil's. Gil's other singer, Keith, is married to a breast cancer survivor. I discovered that Rik Vayo, lead singer for Afterlife, lost his mother to breast cancer. This is where the idea for this event originated.
Steve Shamsi at Molloy's had a date for us, so it was decided we'd try to generate something positive from all this.
Bob and Brian Benintendi are my cousins. They took a big load of responsibility off of us when they volunteered to MC this event. (they also got a pass from the wives to stay out late and party) If any of you remember "Psycho Benny" from Q-102, that was Bryan.

Bryan made his debut on stage at the Cincinnati Grille back in December

After a few beers on the 12th, we'll try to talk him into an encore

This is not a GCSO or a "Greenhills" sponsored event and I don't want any of the great people who always give of themselves to feel excluded. I didn't ask all you great volunteers to help because I know you would have said yes. At the same time, I would be amiss if I didn't point out that a large number of people who are unfamiliar with Greenhills will be coming to the village for this event. This represents a great opportunity to make a positive impression. The network of BC survivors and their families is huge in this area. Anyone who wants to be a part of this can PM me to get plugged in.

Gil's and Afterlife have volunteered to play this event. We will also have "Restless Day", a new band made up of some members of the Brookbank/Bedingfield/Kissel families. I have never heard them, but I look forward to their performance and hope we can get them in the mix for some of these local musical events. I went to high school with their parents, so this is a great chance to get some fresh meat into the lineup

Uncle doesn't miss a thing. He was promoting this event before I could do it. I appreciate the great job you do.

I am so sorry for your loss. I wasn't trying to be flip but it obviously sounds that way. My mom died from breast cancer, too. It's a nasty disease.

Dazed,
This is a great gesture and Barb and I will be there. On a less serious note, who helped you with tying the tie? I know it is not part of your regular attire and you always harrass me for wearing one so I thought I would return the favor.

Everyone Else,
Dazed does more good things for more people than most know. He likes to fly below the radar. Can anyone tell me a better way to thank him than to show up?

You got me. Willie tied it for me. I wasn't going to be looking at my wedding pictures for the rest of my life only to notice my necktie looked like a slip knot. I figured a former captain in the US army could tie it correctly.
