Winton Woods City Schools will hold an Academic Activities Night on Tuesday, January 26 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Winton Woods Intermediate School for students in grades K-6 and their parents. “The goal of this night is to provide parents an opportunity to experience the curriculum from their child's perspective using a parent-friendly format,” said Mimi Gilmer, a member of the district’s Department of Teaching and Learning. “The focus of the evening is on reading, math, and science.”
There will also be parent information booths and workshop options at the event. “A variety of topics will be covered in the parent workshops such as internet safety, homework and test-taking strategies, building relationships with children, and teaching reading to Spanish-speaking students,” said Gilmer. There will be community service booths to visit for valuable information and a family spaghetti dinner will take place from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Academic demonstrations and parent workshops will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Babysitting will be provided for children ages 1-5 -------------------- 2009 Ohio Div. 2 Football Champions

Mimi Gilmer is a wonderful, awesome person! Right up there with Willertz and Jones and Mr. Denny.
I worked with her when I was 9th grade sponsor at the HS. We teamed up on a little project where the 9th graders came down to the MS and spoke with them about transition. |

WOW!! So far, over 575 RSVP's for this event have lead to a change in venue from the Winton Woods Intermediate School to the Wnton Woods High School!
Spaghetti and salad are on the menu and the PTA has been asked to serve dinner. We have recruited a few "celebrity" servers for the evening! I strongly encourage all of the K- 6th parents to sign up for the seminars and take advantage of this interactive program with our schools! Parents must take the lead and this is the opportune time to do so!! |

A BIG turnout last night, which goes to prove that you offer good information with and large helping of good food....you'll pack them in.
Great job by the WW PTA for being in the middle of things for the event. Is it just me or does Mimi Gilmer look like Halle Berry? -------------------- 2009 Ohio Div. 2 Football Champions

Wow she does look like Halle Berry. She's beautiful... apparently from the inside out.
I am very pleased there was such a great turn out. When I recieved the call that they were moving it to the High School because of attendance, it made me smile. I am very disappointed that I cannot be a part of it as now my car has completely died. -------------------- To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

I don't think Mimi has a principal licence, but I'd love to work for someone like her. I know her well and she has exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills. Further, she is very encouraging to others in this district.
You may call her Denny lite. I think she is actually more attractive than Halle Barry, but I'm biased. I'm a huge fan. |
